Nurse Clinician

Practice nurses are qualified and registered nurses. They can help with health issues such as family planning, healthy living advice, blood pressure checks and dressings. The practice nurses run clinics for long-term health conditions such as asthma or diabetes, minor ailment clinics and carry out cervical smears.

Healthcare Assistants

Healthcare assistants support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as phlebotomy (drawing blood), blood pressure measurement and new patient checks. They may act as a chaperone when a patient or doctor requests one.

Practice Manager

The practice manager is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.

The Deputy Practice Manager is responsible for all aspects of financial administration in the practice. 

Receptionists

Receptionists provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the GPs and nurses. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with financial claims, dealing with patient records and carrying out searches and practice audits.

Admin Team

The admin Team are an integral part to the smooth running of the practice and are responsible for; Typing letters, arranging referral & reports and associated documentation Liaising with external agencies such as medical professionals, hospitals, and community services, ensuring referrals are processed efficiently. Clinical coding and scanning. Dealing with incoming mail. Monitoring call, recall of patients and Support all clinical staff with general administrative tasks and receptionist duties as requested.

Healthcare Team

Community Midwives

The Applebeech midwife team will attend pregnant women of this practice in the ante-natal and post-natal period and offer delivery care to those booked at Whiston. The midwives can be contacted at The Healthcare Resource Centre on 0151 495 5079.

Community Nurses

The district nursing team, deal with all the nursing requirements in the home and they are also offer appointments for routine dressings, removal of sutures and ear syringing.

Health Visitors

The health visitors are registered nurses who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing. They can be contacted at Chapelfield Clinic on 0151 495 5200.

Cardiac Nurse

The cardiac nurse is a specialist registered nurse working in the area of heart treatment.  The cardiac nurse deals with cardiovascular diseases, coronary conditions and other cardiological conditions.

Wellbeing Nurse

The wellbeing nurse forms therapeutic relationships with mentally ill people and their families.  The range of conditions is vast; neuroses, psychoses, phychological and personality disorders all come under the broad heading of mental health.

Medicines Management Team

The medicines management team support the primary healthcare team in all medicine management issues.  The role of the medicines managament team includes;

  • Responding to clinical enquiries from the GP’s and practice staff
  • Ensuring patients get the most cost effective, evidence based medicines available
  • Raising awareness of any new guidance around medicines use
  • Facilitating improvements in quality, safety, patient & practice satisfaction
  • Reducing waste

Clinical Pharmacists

Clinical pharmacists are highly qualified experts in medicines and can help people in a range of ways. This includes carrying out structured medication reviews for patients with ongoing health problems and improving patient safety, outcomes and value through a person-centred approach.
